Early Learning and Childcare

Early Learning and Childcare sector

If you’re looking for a new job or a change in career later in life, that is varied, hand’s on, enormously rewarding and can be flexible around your circumstances, Early Learning and Childcare is an option well worth considering.

Do you want to play a part in this dynamic and exciting sector? Be inspired to work with our youngest learners- there’s a world of opportunities across ELC in Aberdeen.

What are the different types of jobs available?

Support Worker – This is an entry level position. You will work within a team to plan, implement and evaluate children’s learning.

Early Years Practitioner (EYP) – As an EYP, you identify and meet the care, support and learning needs of the children you support. As part of a team, you’ll make sure that the activities and games you provide are educational, fun and engaging.

Senior Early Years Practitioner (SEYP) – As an SEYP you will supervise a team of Early Learning and Childcare Practitioners in delivering high quality early learning and childcare which supports the needs of the children and families.

You can get a job in Early Learning and Childcare without any formal, childcare related qualifications. However you will have to get qualifications while you work.

You can seek advice from NESCol or other training providers in Aberdeen about which qualifications might suit you best.

Childcare training and early learing training at Aberlour Futures – Aberdeen City and Shire

To work in a nursery you need to be registered with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) and an entry level role as a Support Worker or ELC Practitioner requires you to be qualified to SCQF levels 6 and 7 respectively. From there, there are lots of routes for progression and specialisation meaning that depending on your interests and ambitions, this is a career that could take you in so many directions.

You can learn more about registration requirements with the SSSC.
