Hi, I’m Nicole, and I’m a member of the ABZWorks team.
There’s a few of us in the team, with lots of different roles, but I think my job as an employability keyworker is the best. That’s why I’m so excited about the launch of the ABZWorks website, because it ticks so many boxes for me and the people I support.
I work with people of all ages across Aberdeen, from school leavers to people approaching retirement, to help them achieve their goals. I love that I get to meet new people from all different walks of life and that every day is so different. The best part of my job is seeing people do things that they didn’t think that they were capable of.
There’s no one-size-fits-all, so we work with people to identify their strengths and interests, and support them into volunteering, training, learning, and work. It’s important to us that we help people get into not just any job or course, but one which they are interested in and can thrive in.
We offer free, one-to-one support. Our programmes offer person-centred and individualised support that considers each persons’ unique situation and goals. And that’s the beauty of this new website, it takes an Aberdeen approach to skills, training, and jobs. ABZWorks helps to link you with services across the city to ensure that you can get the information and support you need, whether you’re a school pupil considering your future career, a parent or carer trying to help a young person on their road to employment or training, or an adult who wants to build their skills, change direction, or get back into employment, education, or training.
I love the fact that I could be involved in the development of the website and that some of my clients could give their views on elements of it. I’m particularly proud that some of Aberdeen’s most vulnerable young people got to have their say on it and our senior school pupils got a sneak peek and the chance to guide us at the Lift Off event in the summer. It’s amazing to have something like this for Aberdeen which so many of the city’s residents have been able to get involved with.
