From a young age, I was always quite independent and loved making short films with my friends and family. I always enjoyed the creative industry growing up and I knew that I had to pursue a career in that field. As I got older, I also enjoyed business studies at school, watching concepts develop into something physical and working in groups on entrepreneurial topics.
I then went on to study a Bachelor Arts Media Degree at Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen. It was during this time that I got the opportunity to experience more professional freelance projects and course works as well as apply my business knowledge to practical situations. My course also tested my filmmaking and creativity skills. After I graduated with a first-class honours degree in summer 2020, I debated at length what I was going to do – as you can imagine the timing wasn’t exactly ideal.
The global pandemic, a lack of graduate jobs and the subconscious idea of being a business owner encouraged me to make the move – I took the plunge into self-employment with the realisation that “I have nothing to lose”. I believe my inspiration came from the many years spent studying business and media but also watching the journeys of other successful young entrepreneurs, such as James Matthews, Nile Wilson and Ben Francis.
Therefore, I launched Pink Sphynx Media in October 2020 in pursuit of creating high-quality and vibrant videos for different clients. I believe that video is the best way for you to communicate to your target audience whether this is through social media content, commercials or short films. We work together to develop your ideas, bring them to life and give you that all-important visual edge. I wanted to start my own business because I love a challenge and I thoroughly enjoy seeing all the video processes come together to create something which ultimately provokes emotions and responses. Therefore, I thought “why not make a living by doing something I enjoy – and as a result, produces a product which makes people happy?”
I was recently commissioned by Aberdeen City Council to create a short promotional video for the new ABZ Works website (https://abzworks.co.uk/). ABZ Works showcases career pathways, particularly in growth areas for young people and career changers. It also provides detailed and local information on Apprenticeships, employability and also health and support services. This was a really great project to work on and quite fitting for me given that I’m just starting out on my career. Hearing about the plans to promote the city, the opportunities here and the huge variety of jobs available was very exciting, particularly hearing about the future of energy transition in Aberdeen. It was fantastic to be able to capture some of what Aberdeen has to offer on film. Watch our video below! I hope you enjoy it!
