Creating Your Future

Hi there, I’m Andrea Howard, a project co-ordinator with the Creative Learning Team. 

 

Part of my job is to organise classes for ABZWorks.  We deliver one-to-one or small group creative workshops, enabling and empowering people in Aberdeen to improve their personal and employability skills. We work with people who have an interest in art and design, practical making, photography, digital media, or who generally identify as being interested in anything creative.  I love the challenge of matching up someone’s interests with the artists and seeing their creativity blossom! 

 

Through these practical workshops, participants become more confident in their abilities, and we help them to understand how creative skills can be applied to their future work, life, and further education. They can build on these skills and create a portfolio of work, assisting them to move towards an application to education, further training, or employment.  

 

Skills – Confidence – Wellbeing – Progression  

This year we have worked with people who have a wide variety of interests and aims. Participants have a huge range of ideas and inspiration for their classes!  Some have started drawing classes, specifically drawing emergency vehicles, analytical figure drawing while others want to learn traditional hand stitching skills. The stitching class enables them to upcycle their own clothes and even to sell items online! The offer is so varied, and no class is the same. Recently some participants have gone onto study art and design at college and university, one participant has moved on to study veterinary sciences while many others have taken up other Further Education and training opportunities.
