The Course provides learners with the opportunity to develop skills in reading, listening, talking, and writing, which are essential for learning, work, and life; develop an understanding of how language works.

This course offers learners the opportunity to develop their skills in reading, listening, talking and writing in Gàidhlig. They will learn to understand how language works and how to communicate information and ideas.

Learners will also study a wide range of various types of texts in a variety of media. They will learn to think critically and creatively and develop cultural awareness.

The course is made up of 3 areas of study

  • Reading
  • Writing
  • Listening

Learners will develop:

  • reading, writing and listening skills in Gàidhlig
  • a knowledge of detailed language in the contexts of society, learning, employability and culture.

Assignment – Writing

Learners will develop:

  • writing and grammatical skills in Gàidhlig
  • knowledge and understanding of detailed language in the contexts of society, learning, employability and culture..

Performance – Talking

Learners will develop:

  • talking and writing skills in Gàidhlig
  • a knowledge and understanding of detailed language in the contexts of society, learning, employability and culture.

The course assessment has four components totalling 100 marks:

  • Component 1: question paper 1: Leughadh (Reading) – worth 30 marks
  • Component 2: question paper 1: Litreachas  (Literature) – worth 20 marks
  • Component 3: question paper 2: Èisteachd (Listening) – worth 20 marks
  • Component 4: Còmhradh (performance – talking) – worth 30 marks.
