The Course enables learners to develop an extended range of computing and computational thinking skills, including skills in analysis and problem-solving, design and modelling, developing, implementing, testing, and evaluating digital solutions across a range of contemporary contexts.

The Course consists of three components:

Software Design and Development

Learners will analyse, design and implement computer programs using the Python programming language, then test and evaluate programming solutions.

Web Design and Development

Learners will create multi-page websites using HTML and CSS, while developing knowledge of the legal and technical implications of website creation.

Computer Systems

Learners will develop knowledge of how data is stored and processed in a computer system, how the main components of a computer system interact with data and each other, and the environmental and security implications of computer systems.

The course is assessed via two components, both of which are externally marked by SQA markers.

Course Assignment (40 marks):

An extended practical assignment completed in class over the course of three weeks.

Learners will demonstrate their skills and knowledge of the Software Design and Development unit and the Web Design and Development Unit.

Question Paper (80 marks)

An exam paper with a variety of questions on all three topics covered in class.

Marks attained in both components are combined, and a percentage out of 120 is calculated to ascertain the final grade.
