ABZWorks Development Grants create community training opportunities across Aberdeen

ELEVEN community organisations have secured funding via the ABZWorks Development Grants Fund.

The Fund focused on community-based, early-engagement employability activity to help Aberdeen residents overcome barriers to employment and move towards training, volunteering, education, self-employment or work.
A broad range of support has been made available to city residents via the Fund, including confidence building, practical skills development, and support to move towards a job, training, volunteering, and further or higher education.
No One Left Behind monies from the Scottish Government was used to create the ABZWorks Development Grants Fund, with support from Aberdeen’s Local Employability Partnership.

Delivery Location – Pittodrie Stadium, encompassing North (Seaton) & Central (George Street). Open to all in the City. 

 

Pittodrie Pathways is a six-week employability programme for adults aged 18–24 who are not in employment, education or training and face multiple barriers to work. Delivered at Pittodrie Stadium, the programme combines structured employability sessions with employer engagement, including talks and visits from Aberdeen FC staff and partners. Participants receive practical support with CVs, applications and interview skills, while building confidence, motivation and key workplace skills through exposure to real job roles across the club and its associated organisations.

Delivery Location – The Bridge Centre, Torry 

 

This project delivers a 10-week enhanced volunteer programme based within the community café at The Bridge Centre in Torry. It supports people furthest from the labour market to gain practical experience in food preparation, health and safety, and customer-facing roles, alongside achieving a Food Hygiene certificate. Participants are also supported with CV development and job searching, helping build confidence, skills and readiness for employment.

Delivery Location – Tillydrone Community Campus 

 

 

This project delivers a six-week, confidence-led employability programme based at Tillydrone Community Campus, supporting adults furthest from the labour market, particularly unemployed parents and those returning to work. It focuses on building confidence, communication and readiness for employment through weekly group sessions, alongside support to develop digital skills and navigate online tools for job searching, applications and CV development. 

 

Catalyst Transform

Delivery Location – City Centre (John Street – kitchen/café setting) 

 

 

Transform Food provides supported work placements within a catering kitchen and café environment for people facing significant barriers to employment, including those involved in the criminal justice system. Participants gain practical work experience, build confidence and develop workplace skills, alongside support with CVs, applications and interview preparation to help progress towards employment.

Everlasting Love: Performance Pathways is a creative employability project supporting young people aged 16–25 who face barriers to employment. Over an eight-week programme, participants develop performance and technical skills through rehearsals and live delivery in community settings, building confidence, teamwork and communication skills while gaining practical experience in music, events and production.

This project sustains a digital and financial inclusion programme supporting people facing multiple barriers to employment, including digital exclusion, poverty and low confidence. Delivered through a community hub, it provides access to devices and data alongside group sessions and one-to-one support covering digital skills, CV development and job searching, helping participants build confidence and progress towards employment.

This project supports delivery of Denis Law’s Academy, providing tailored employability support for young people aged 16–24 through one-to-one engagement, group workshops and skills development. Activity includes a young person-led podcast project alongside workshops and training opportunities, helping participants build confidence, develop communication skills and gain experience to support progression towards employment, education or training.

DigitalGap: Employability Pathways & Progression Sprint is a short, intensive employability project supporting adults facing barriers to work who already have basic digital skills. It focuses on building confidence, clarifying progression pathways and improving application readiness through structured workshops, helping participants move towards employment, training or other realistic next steps.

Micro-Pathways to Employment is a 12-week employability pilot supporting adults who are far removed from the labour market. It focuses on confidence building, wellbeing and digital skills through group sessions and tailored support, alongside helping participants explore both traditional employment and alternative pathways such as self-employment and flexible work.

This project delivers CV writing and interview preparation workshops for local people who are unemployed or struggling to access work.
