My Journey – Jade Gauld
Just a short while ago, I was an unemployed single mum, juggling the challenges of parenthood while searching for a way forward after maternity leave.
It wasn’t easy. Every day felt like an uphill climb, and the uncertainty about the future weighed heavily on me. But I knew I wanted more, not just for myself, but for my daughter.
That’s when I discovered ABZWorks at a job centre event. I joined as a client, eager to learn and grow and hopefully find employment that suited around my daughter’s nursery hours.
A turning point
Soon after, I was offered a three-month work experience placement with the team helping with the Grow, Save Multiply project. This opportunity was a turning point. It gave me the chance to build confidence, develop new skills, and see first-hand the impact of supporting others on their employability journey.
Those three months flew by. When the placement ended, I found myself applying for and then sitting in an interview for a full-time role as an Employability Keyworker. I was nervous, but also proud of how far I had come. When I got the call to say I’d been successful, it felt like a dream come true.
Anything is possible
Today, I’m part of the team that once supported me. I help others overcome barriers, find opportunities, and believe in themselves just as I learned to believe in myself. My journey proves that with the right support and determination, transformation is possible.
